Creates detailed mechanical component, assembly, and enclosure drawings.
Creates mechanical specifications.
Works closely with electronic designers to formulate system-cooling solutions.
Selects materials and manufacturing processes for the mechanical parts.>
Determines appropriate method of manufacture (i.e. sheet metal fabrication and stamping, die-casting, aluminium extrusions, etc.).
Works with toolmakers and the project team to optimize material and process selection.
Coordinates with suppliers and vendors to purchase and expedite the delivery of key mechanical components.
Prepares drawings in support of intellectual property protection.
Estimates the scope of work for mechanical elements of projects to support project planning, and product costing.
Ensures assignments are within design, budget and schedule limitations. |

Education: Degree in Mechanical Engineering (advanced degree preferred)
Experience: 3 years in industry with experience in automotive component/system design, preferably in power electronics/electronic modules
Extensive SolidWorks design experience
Extensive experience with thermal modeling and mechanical analysis tools
Understanding of high volume manufacturing processes
Experience with automotive component design process (DFMEA, PPAP)
Extensive knowledge of material selection, their properties and sources
Knowledge of electrical principles and electronics is an asset
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. |
